West Virginia Casinos

There are four major gambling sites in West Virginia. All four are racinos, which are a combination of casinos and racetracks. There is the Mardi Gras Racetrack and Gaming Center has a mardi gras theme similar to Harrah’s though there is no affiliation to them and is actually officially located in Nitro, but remains considered part of Cross Roads. Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Casino is located on Wheeling island in the middle of the Ohio River. Charles Town Races and Slots in Charles Town (the horse racing facility is home to the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic). The Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester was known as the Waterford Park before 1990, and the racino installed the slot machines in 1994.

Waterford Park has a growing reputation aided by the fact that it hosts the West Virginia Derby. Previously just racetracks with slots and games such as keno; they have recently been given the go ahead with table games. Strangely enough it appears that the age to make wagers on racetrack televisions is 18 while the age to at the actual track is 21.

West Virginia Lottery

West Virginia has several high winning lottery games including Powerball, Hot Lotto, Keno, Cash 25, and the Daily3 and Daily4. Of all the games Powerball is by far the most popular with drawing on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Proceeds from all the games go to helping the local communities in areas such as education, senior citizens, and state parks. Since its conception in 1986 over $1 billion dollars has gone back to the state of West Virginia. West Virginians are also very much into The Big Payout, an online lottery that cost 13 cents to play. The 2007 fiscal years saw the West Virginia Lottery bring in more than $1.5 billion in proceeds more than tripling sales in the year past such as 2000.

Bingo in West Virginia has a plethora of different styles and types of games to choose from. Pull tabs are extremely popular and raffles have also caught on extremely well. It seams that police stations host bingo nights that usually bring in some much needed money to the local communities. The state of West Virginia states that the age of 18 is the minimum you must be to put wagers down on bingo games, but if accompanied by a parent or guardian children are allowed to be in the room while the game is being conducted.
