Gambling is illegal in Mauritania. This is due to the country being almost entirely Muslim. Islam forbids practices such as gambling and the consumption of alcohol.
Facts About Mauritania
Mauritania, also known as the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is located in Africa and bordered by Senegal, Mali, Algeria and Western Sahara. Nouakchott is the largest city and capital. Along with Madagascar, it is one of only two countries to not use a decimal-based currency.

The country’s first democratic election since 1960 took place on March 11th, 2007. Following a military coup in 2005, this fully transferred power to civilian hands.
Much of the population is dependent on livestock and agriculture. The primary export of Mauritania is iron ore, while gold and copper are also important.
In 2007, the population of the country was estimated to be 3,270,065. The average life expectancy is 53.12 years. 40% of the population is Arab/Black, while another 30% are Arab and 30% Black.
99.84% of the population is Muslim, with most following the Sunni faith. The constitution of the country has declared Islam as the state religion and somewhat limits religious freedom.
The national and official language of Mauritania is Hassaniva, which is a dialect of Arabic. Other languages found in the country include: French, Wolof, Soninke and Pulaar.
Slavery still exists in Mauritania, with some Arab Muslims owning black slaves. In 2007, slavery in Mauritania was criminalized, and slave ownership has been banned by law since 1981. Some estimates place the number of slaves as high as 600,000, with many serving as bonded labor.
