| Backing the Odds
on the Pass Line Wager |
If you play Craps, there's a good chance you know
what the best bets on the Craps table are. Craps can be
so intimidating to the onlooker who is unfamiliar with
all the rules that most people wouldn't even dare
attempt to place a bet unknowingly. Then the real
question is whether you know what the best bet at
the craps table is?
This is somewhat of a tricky question, because the
best bet is actually not even displayed on the craps
table. It is called the free odds bet, and in order to
even make it, you first place the next best bet on the
table - the Pass Line bet.
After making the pass line wager, if the point number
gets established (meaning it did not win on lose on the
come out roll), you are then permitted to make the free
odds bet, also known as "backing the odds". All online
casinos allow bettors to make a free odds wager up to
twice the amount of the original pass liner wager.
Of course, the more you lay down on free odds, the
better your return. Just be sure your bankroll is padded
enough to get you through the high's and low's (and that
your stakes are chosen accordingly). In other words,
don't place $5 bets if this is all you can afford to get
you through fifteen minutes of gambling. Remember, if
your playing with optimized strategy and making free
odds bets, you'll be staking $10 bets when the
opportunity to back the odds arises, which it inevitably
will.
And just in case you're wondering, if you back full
odds on a pass line bet (after having it's point number
established), you will lower the Casinos Edge from .85%
down to .61%.
