Online Casino News - iMEGA Angles for Better PR in US Fight

iMEGA Angles for Better PR in US Fight

by Devon Chappell, News Staff Writer

September 24, 2007

The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA), is a large, non-profit trade organization of online casino merchants that formed to protect the interests of the online gambling industry. With new online casinos popping up daily on the World Wide Web as the industry thrives and becomes ever more popular, there has been no shortage of opponents challenging the ethics of internet play. Right now, iMEGA is facing what could just turn out to be its biggest challenge to date: the United States’ Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The Act has severely restricted financial transactions between American citizens and internet casinos, leading to questions about its constitutionality. The World Trade Organization is attempting to cope with the Bush government’s defiance on the issue; iMEGA is pursuing the matter in its own way.

The Association has retained the services of New York-based public relations firm Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. Ogilvy is a “high-powered and internationally respected” firm with over sixty offices worldwide. Now, the firm has pledged its support in helping iMEGA tackle the American online casino issue. With Ogilvy’s backing, iMEGA’s opposition of the online casino legislation will be higher-profile than ever. iMEGA will rely on Ogilvy’s profound legal expertise to help them in their fight against the unpopular online gambling edict. As a nonprofit entity, iMEGA insists that it is committed to working with the government to develop best practices concerning online casinos – but insists that restriction of the industry is not the way to go.

The internet’s profound growth has led to an environment where online casinos thrive, says iMEGA, and working to develop the best possible solutions for online gambling patrons and online casino owners alike is a worthwhile pursuit.
