Online
Casino Finds New Ways to Advertise
by Elizabeth Nguyen, News Staff Writer

Most online casinos have learned to get creative in
their marketing ventures. Competition in the world of
online gambling is stiff, and internet casinos must stay
on their toes if they are to keep up with whatever is
considered latest and greatest in the ever-changing
world of online gaming. GoldenPalace.com, however, can
objectively be said to take the cake in terms of
creative advertising. When the online casino caught word
that a pregnant woman in North Carolina was auctioning
the rights to advertise on her baby belly on eBay, the
site’s bigwigs saw an opportunity.
Over two years after Amber Rainey of Myrtle Beach agreed
to attend promotional events with an airbrushed Golden
Palace logo on her rotund tummy, the online casino is
still reaping the benefits. Site execs report that, to
this day, they are still known by many as “that site
that bought the woman’s pregnant belly.” The internet
casino is well-known for its promotional stunts, such as
purchasing a grilled cheese sandwich alleged to bear the
likeness of the Virgin Mary, and paying a willing
collegian to change her name legally to “GoldenPalace.com.”
Unfortunately, Golden Palace is infamous among online
casinos for a bit more than expensive pranks. The site
lost its agreement with online gambling monolith
Microgaming for refusing to pay players.
As for Rainey, a recent interview found that she’s still
happy with her decision. Golden Palace sent her to the
Super Bowl with her walking online casino advertisement,
and has repeatedly sent Christmas and birthday gifts to
her son, Parker, now two-and-a-half. She says that the
internet casino was more than generous, and that she’s
saved all the clippings from the nationwide media
coverage of her pregnancy for her son to peruse when he
gets older.
