The mobile online
gambling sector has fared pretty well in 2008 despite
regulatory setbacks hampering the internet betting
market as a whole, according to the latest report
released by Research and Markets. Titled, "Mobile
Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries and Betting 2008-2013",
the report provides a comprehensive look at mobile
gaming the world over, including projections through
2013 for eight principle regional markets, including the
UK.
One of the most
in-depth publications covering the online mobile gaming
industry to date, research was segmented according to
the primary sectors within the mobile market -
lotteries, casinos and betting (sports). A primary
component of this research pertained to regulatory
legislation both on a national and international stage,
all of which has been written and passed within a short
time frame.
Part of what is so
remarkable about the mobile gambling industry is how
large it has become in such a short time period.
Granted, the online gambling industry didn't come around
until the mid-to-late-nineties. Mobile gambling,
however, didn't really begin gaining any momentum until
only a few years ago. Part of the problem (besides
regulatory setbacks) has been mobile integration and
available technologies.
Well, the
technology is certainly available these days. An
increasing number of mobile online gaming applications
are now compatible with the leading cellular makes and
models, including Nokia, AT&T and Cingular. Furthermore,
an increasing number of top-label online casino software
companies have developed software platforms compatible
with download apps on mobile handsets.
As mentioned, the
biggest challenge the international online mobile gaming
industry faces in the years to come is market
legalization. Research and Markets' "Mobile Gambling:
Casinos, Lotteries and Betting 2008-2013", has aimed
to not only answer this question, but also questions
pertaining to specific regions showing great promise,
such as the United Kingdom and Asia - where mobile
penetration is at an all time high.
