CASINO NEWS
News of the Month...
The European facing
online gambling industry just got a little more busy
with the recent news that the Castilla y Leon region of
Spain is poised to regulate internet betting under draft
legislation to be introduced as early as 2009. Announced
at the opening of the Castilla y Leon Gaming Congress in
Coreses, Spain, Home Affairs Councilor, Alfonso
Fernandez Manueco, confirmed rumors that draft
legislation was already in the works. The news should be
no surprise to European gamers - Spain has been making
steady progress in liberalizing its gambling laws and
opening doors for online gambling regulation ever since
the UK initiated regulation in 2005. While it is still
unclear just how liberalized the gaming will be in
Castilla y Leon (Manueco said legislation will regulate
"private online gaming"), any amount of liberalization
in the European facing sector is great news for the
online gambling industry as a whole. Thus far, draft
legislation is rumored to specify and define certain
types of online casino games that may be offered, as
well as corresponding prize money to be paid out.
Conditions to prevent underage/problem gambling and
organized crime are sure to also be included. |
