Stemming from when
Boss Media kicked TrillionPoker off its network for
"rake back violations", Trillion has been aggressively
trying to defame Boss Media in what appears to be an act
of revenge more so than a legitimate court lawsuit. And
for what appears to be an unjust settlement to the
outside viewer, the online poker room, PokerTrillion,
has successfully imposed its litigation against
Sweden-based online gambling software developer, Boss
Media - resulting in a ruling that may effectively bring
down all of Boss Media's poker activities in the UK
licensed territory of Malta.
In other words, if
you have been thinking about opening an account at a
Boss Media powered poker room licensed in Malta, you may
want to think again. According to the ruling by Judge
Gino Camilleri in the First Hall Court, Boss Media must
shut down its servers hosted in Malta come September 18.
And the kicker is that the ruling does not allow for an
appeal.
The Maltese
gambling authority has been known to be one of the
strictest online gambling licensing and regulatory
bodies in the world, but I don't think anyone could have
predicted the court to go this far. Even Boss Media
itself told players that a disruption to Malta
operations was "highly unlikely" and that an "award of
damages" would be equally unlikely in regards to the €20
Million lawsuit (originally €5 million) filed by
TrillionPoker.
Boss Media has
already responded to the ruling and was quick to assure
players that operations will not be shut down and that
assets have not been frozen (a claim which TrillionPoker
made in the past as an attempt to stir things up. All
player assets are held separately under the control of
the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority and cannot be
seized by any court.
However, the
software giant did not confirm nor deny whether the a
freezing order now applies to its operations in Malta.
If it does, Boss certainly has the assets to get through
the lawsuit. However, if the freezing order is
successfully wielded upon all of Boss Media's European
operations, which Trillion says they will be applying to
execute, things could get ugly real fast. We will keep
players updated on this story as it unfolds.
