Parx Expansion Will Create Jobs, Proof that Good Things can come from Gambling

27 December 2010 by admin

The Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania in the United States, has announced that they will be expanding their casino with a new area they are calling Parx East. The expansion is a result of table games being legalized in Pennsylvania earlier this year. While the new pro-table game law has resulted in some new brick and mortar casinos, it has also resulted in expansions of casinos that previously only offered patrons slot machines. The Parx expansion will create four hundred new jobs. So take that anyone who thinks that nothing positive—like jobs—can come from legalizing gambling.

In addition to the four hundred new jobs, the Parx will now be able to offer table games, including poker tables, blackjack tables and specialty table games, in addition to their racing, slots, restaurants and other forms of entertainment. Parx East is where the table games will find a home, along with the Noodle Bar.

So $100 million and eight months later, the Parx will finally have their table games.

But the thing that I want to point out is the jobs creation. Job creation was part of Senator Harry Reid’s bill to legalize online poker. If jobs were to be created it would lessen the US’s unemployment rate, give some Americans an income again, and Americans with an income will be able to put money back into the American economy that has been limping along.

So if the 29% increase in jobs at Parx can result in four hundred US citizens coming off of unemployment and contributing to the economy again, how could the thousands of jobs that would result from online gambling regulation be shoved aside in favor of saving Americans from themselves and the moral decline online gambling would become. Bravo, Parx and Pennsylvania, for the progressive attitude towards gambling and seeing that good things can come from legalizing such a form of recreation.
