Fantasy Blackjack on the iPhone Nearest You

6 January 2011 by admin

If you are the proud—or not so proud depending—of an iPhone, iPad or iSomething device you are now able to play in a fantasy blackjack league from you iDevice—which is what I call them all collectively.

The Fantasy Blackjack app was thought of by the Palms Casino Resort, a casino in the United States, and actually created by Sevryn Mobile on behalf of the Palms Casino Resort. The idea, as explained by their Chief of Marketing Office, Jason Gastwirth, was to offer blackjack lovers who also own Apple devices something different: “We did not want to launch another ‘me-too’ blackjack app, but instead looked to create something fresh that had the Palms fingerprint on it. While most blackjack app games are one-dimensional, we broke that mold with Fantasy Blackjack and, with our partner Sevryn Mobile, created a socially-interactive and fun experience around a casino game that people already know and love.”

Now I have heard of other blackjack apps before; they are nothing new. They tend to run in one of two varieties: one-on-one play against the game’s computer or it will compare your ‘score’ to your friends’ ‘scores’ after you do some one-on-one play. After checking out this new Fantasy Blackjack app I have to say that, yes, the Palms have really created something different. But I do not see their fingerprints on my iPhone—I only see my own.

Fantasy Blackjack, as its name suggests, is modeled loosely after the fantasy football concept. You can play with it in one of two ways. You can download the app from the Apple app store and make yourself a commissioner in the game. This means that you are the gather of your friends to the game; this is done by sending invites to your friends through email, the contacts in your iDevice or through Facebook—if you have the Facebook app on your iDevice as well. Now remember the Fantasy Blackjack app can only be played on an iDevice so your aunt in Michigan who does not own an iDevice cannot play.

As a commissioner you are inviting your friends to play in the same league that you are playing in. And as commissioner you can set the details about the season, such as its duration. At the end of the season whoever played the best—presumably determined by whoever has the most chips at the end—is declared the winner.

The other way to play is to become a dealer. Anyone can be a dealer; there is no special Grand Pooba thing that you have to do to be a dealer. Simply declare yourself as such and, like a real dealer, set the rules of a game. Players can then browse the game rules that various dealers have put together in the league and choose one to play in. The game rules at the dealer’s disposal include blackjack payout (which anyone would set at 3-2 or better), double down rules, number of decks in the game and other such basic game details.

What does set the Fantasy Blackjack app apart from other blackjack apps is that players really are playing against each other rather than a computer…that is, they are as long as they are playing on one of the iDevices.
