Beyond Land-Based Trends, Internet Gambling Draws Players With More Money Than Ever

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

I hate to say it  (believe me, I really do), but the Summer is coming to a close, folks. What’s that? You’d rather it did. Well then, maybe you haven’t heard the news that Summertime is the best time of year for online gambling. Oh wait – I take that back. It’s the best time of year (typically) for the casinos. You’ll notice I didn’t say the operative word, “players”, nor the word “online”, for yes, I am just referring to brick ‘n mortar casinos.

You see, online gambling doesn’t necessarily follow the same trends as the land-based industry. Of course, when it comes to economic factors, there are general trends which simply cannot be avoided. But on the whole, online gambling has fared much better than land-based casinos during these trying economic times. Needless to say, people are still wagering, and the fact of the matter is that the brick ‘n mortar industry still does more business than the internet.

Yet, the way things are looking, this could very well be changing in the near future. One reason why online casinos are still doing well in what is still a sluggish economy the world over, is, quite simply, that many of them are loaded. Where this is most evident is in the promotions and progressive jackpots. The most popular form of promotions are welcome bonuses, as the name of the game (for online casino operators, that is) is to get depositing players in the door. And there is nothing more tempting than free money, is there not?

The other big temptation is the prospect of becoming a millionaire or at least to win a sizeable jackpot in the thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is where the sway of wide area progressive jackpots come into play. Linked together via several online casinos powered by the same software platform, progressive jackpots are where the big bucks are. Sure, there are large slots tournaments that will give any Vegas Strip casino a run for its money. However, it’s the progressive jackpots that bring in the most.

In our next post, we will be talking more about the largest wide area progressive jackpot networks currently avaialable at online casinos, including the rise of several U.S. friendly networks.

The GPWA Affiliate Program Sponsors Seal: What it Means for You, the Player

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

gpwa1Grande Vegas Casino was in the news recently, including a write-up here on the OCS blog. Just a refresher: Two lucky players were awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to the famous Foxwoods Casino Resort in Connecticut. If that isn’t giving away business, I don’t know what is!

Anyhow, Grande Vegas has been an approved online casino here at OCS for about a year now. Besides meeting all of our minimum requirements for a listing in our online casino reviews directory, Grande Vegas has a few other accreditations under it’s belt, and I thought it would be a perfect time to talk about one of these accreditations right now.

Introducing the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association (GPWA). For all you players who don’t happen to be affiliates of online casinos, the GPWA is a non-profit, professional organization composed of webmasters working in the online gambling industry. With over 10,000 members, the GPWA is the largest and most active organization of its kind. Free to join, the GPWA is financially supported via affiliate program sponsorship.

In essence, what the GPWA does is give online casino affiliates (such as yours truly) a union-like power that allows affiliates to wield their powerful influence in the online marketing sector. It also helps affiliates secure more favorable financial deals and ensure timely payment of commissions and advertising revenue.

That said, it’s reassuring to know that Grande Vegas Casino is a member and sponsor of the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association, boasting the GPWA Seal on their website. Just as affiliates are upheld to high standards of responsible affiliate marketing, sponsor online casinos are held to a similar Code of Conduct. The provisions of which include the following:

- Abide by all regulatory and licensing laws of the jurisdiction in which business takes place.

- Does not engage in deceitful or misleading promotional marketing or boast false accreditations and business practices.

- Publicly discloses all rules and registration guidelines pertaining to players and affiliates.

- Does not engage in unethical marketing practices.

- Processes withdrawals and payments in accordance with published T&C’s.

- Promptly responds to and handles complaints by affiliates for both affiliate issues and those submitted by players of affiliates.

- Accepts responsibility for complying with the above terms.

If you are a player and reading this, you should know that you are in good hands when you play at a GPWA approved online casino. You are in even better hands, when you find an affiliate site, such as yours truly, Online Casino Suite, that publishes a recommendation to play at said online casino. In other words, if you have a complaint about Grande Vegas Casino, or any casino listed on our site – okay, any casino period :) – please register at our player’s forum and post your complaint here: http://onlinecasinosuite.com/forum/

William Hill Vegas on a Winning Streak With Big Jackpot Winners

See the Recent Winners List at William Hill Online for a dose of payouts.

See the Recent Winners List at William Hill Online for a dose of payouts.

William Hill’s virtual Las Vegas online casino, William Hill Vegas, recently scored it’s largest winner to date. Or perhaps I should say a lucky player at William Hill Vegas has scored the largest jackpot to date – for both Will Hill and the player! Coming in at nearly half-a-million pounds, let’s just say it’s one of the largest jackpots to be won online, period!

The lucky player – referred to as Eni O. – hails from London, which is precisely where William Hill is headquartered. Even though the big win was hit one month ago, it’s still making news at a number of online gambling news sites – including OCS, obviously!

Eni had this to say in regards to the win: “I’m absolutely over the moon. I’ve had a few small wins on williamhill.com in the past, but this is incredible – I’m lost for words! I just want to hug that plucky little leprechaun.”

What’s even more newsworthy is that while Eni’s £420,948.21 jackpot win (on the Leprechaun’s Luck slot machine, hence the shout out to the plucky little leprechaun) is an impressive feat, the fact of the matter is that jackpots in the hundreds-of-thousands take place all the time at William Hill Vegas. Within the last year, there were twelve wins that nearly hit or surpassed the £100,000 mark.

The three wins that hovered just below 100K were for £85,000 on the Pharaoh’s Treasure progressive video slot, £76,000 also on Pharaoh’s Treasure and £74,000 on Alice’s Wonderland. The “Chests of Plenty” slot has produced three different £100K+ wins (the largest coming in at £176,000 last October), while “Alice’s Wonderland” has scored the fifth and second largest wins at £150,000 and £256,000. The third largest jackpot within the last year was for over £234,000 on the Leprechaun’s Luck slot, which as mentioned, was home to the largest jackpot to date at nearly £421,000.

William Hill Vegas is part of the William Hill Online network of internet wagering sites, offering everything from sports betting and casino games to bingo, poker and skill games. Will Hill Vegas is is owned and operated by WHG International Ltd. and is licensed and registered with the UK white-listed Gibraltar Regulatory Authority, which on a side note, is proving to be a more fitting regulatory jurisdiction than the UK Gambling Commission for an increasing number of UK/Europe based online casino operators. Grande Vegas Casino Awards Two Trips to Foxwoods Casino Resort

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Grande Vegas Online Casino is just giving the business away!

Grande Vegas Online Casino is just giving the business away!

As reported earlier, here at OCS, Grande Vegas online casino has been set to give away two all-expense-paid trips to the famous Foxwoods tribal casino in Connecticut. Entering every single player into the raffle draw (who made at least one real money wager inside the online casino this Summer), Grande Vegas has just unveiled the lucky winner.

Published via a Lyceum Media press release, the news should have some head’s turning by now. It’s one thing to announce a promotion and illicit participation from players. It’s another thing altogether when said promotion has come to fruition and there is a reaction from the lucky winners.

Sure enough, the two lucky winners (Sheila S. from New York and Taylor C. from California) had something to say about their good fortune. Sheila S. said, “My husband is ecstatic about going to Foxwoods but I bet he’ll be spending more time on the golf course than in the casino!”, while Taylor C. had this to say:

“I first checked out Grande Vegas when I heard they had the biggest progressive jackpots that we American online casino players can play for,” said Taylor C.  “I do recall reading about the Foxwoods contest in a player newsletter at the beginning of the summer but I’d honestly forgotten about it. So it was quite a surprise – a really pleasant surprise – when Customer Support contacted me to tell me to start packing for my free trip to Foxwoods!”

It’s not very often often that online casinos give away free trips to players. It’s certainly not very often for an online casino to send their players to a brick ‘n mortar casino at that. If you ask me, it’s like giving business away. But then again, that’s Grande Vegas for you. One of the top-performing U.S. facing, RTG-powered online casinos in business today, Grande Vegas doesn’t hold back in the promotions department.

In addition to their long-standing welcome bonus offer of 100% up to $100 Free on all new depositing players, Grande Vegas is giving away an additional match bonus worth $100 Free (aka, the Cosmopolitan Bonus) until September 22nd, and a 77% bonus up to $154 Free until September 30th.

And for all the table game bettors out there, Grande Vegas offers an outstanding ongoing cashback bonus. For all deposits up to $5,000 in a given week (contingent on all wagers being made at table games), Grande Vegas will give 5% back, while deposits over $5,000 will receive 10% back. Best of all, the cashback bonus money only needs to be played through one time over before it is eligible to be cashed out. Read the OCS Grande Vegas Casino Review for more information or Visit Grande Vegas Directly to claim your $100 in Free cash today.

Atlantis Internet Group Signs With Cake to Power Tribal Online Poker

Monday, September 13th, 2010

AtlantisInternetGroup2In what could be a sign of things to come for online casino gambling in the United States, Las Vegas-based Atlantis Internet Group has signed an agreement with the popular Cake Poker Network (powering U.S. favorite, Doyle’s Room), to create a wide area online poker network for players residing in regulated tribal casino State’s.

While this may seem, at first, a bold and dangerous move in light of the UIGEA – albeit an ineffective online gambling ban – Atlantis Internet Group Chief Executive, Donald L. Bailey, says the agreement will give the Tribal Gaming Network (a patent pending intratribal/intrastate online casino network) an “immediate and legal solution” for tribes seeking to offer internet betting.

That’s because the UIGEA has exemptions for Indian Casinos, intertribal internet gaming, as well as State’s with intrastate online gambling laws. Personally, that’s news to me – I thought the only carveouts in the UIGEA were for horseracing, lotto and fantasy sports betting.

TribalGamingNetworkBut according to the National Indian Gaming Commission, which oversees tribal casino regulations in the State’s, the Tribal Gaming Network is 100% legit. It’s also 100% loaded. Synced with over ten tribal casinos and potentially allowing players in thirty State’s to play online casino games, the Tribal Gaming Network has the potential of offering one of the largest wide area progressive jackpot networks on the Web.

For now, Atlantis Internet Group has it’s sights on online poker, which currently holds the greatest potential of becoming regulated in State’s where tribal casino gambling is legal. California leads the way with an amended poker bill scheduled for legislative action before the year is out, while both New Jersey & Florida are considering similar options.

The Cake Network is certainly a great choice for launching an online poker network. With thousands of players online at any given moment and an open door to the U.S. online poker market, Cake will give the Tribal Gaming Network instant liquidity, not to mention credibility, while a giant surpluss of players will only serve to strenghten Cake in return.

Jadestone Launches Liar’s Dice; Expanding Online Casino Platform

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

jadestone01Jadestone Networks has announced a new dice game, called “Liar’s Dice” has been launched live and is now available in multi-player mode throughout the European online betting demographic. In actuality, “Liar’s Dice” isn’t as new as you might think. Dating back to the travels – or rather – conquests of the Spanish conquistadors in South America, Liar’s Dice achieved popularity in the “New World”, only to receive a recent surge of interest after being featured in Disney’s hit movie, Pirates of the Caribbean (which your’s truly actually had the pleasure of playing an extra in!).

This is precisely why Jadestone – to celebrate the launch and generate buzz – is giving away a vacation trip to “pirate waters”, aka, a beautiful, resort destination somewhere in the Caribbean. All cash money players who play “Liar’s Dice” (available at Bwin, BetFair and Unibet) during the month of September will be entered into a raffle.

Referred to as the “ultimate game of bluff” that is “deceptively simply and rewards the player’s with the strongest nerves” by Jadestone’s Business Development Director, Tobias Nissen, “Liar’s Dice” is much like head’s up poker in many respects. Two players compete against one another in a series of betting rounds where bluffing…err…lying becomes a valued skill and I dare say artform.

liarsdiceThe game begins by each player rolling five dice – the outcome of which is only viewable to the player who is rolling. This is followed by one player making a bid (a dice hand between one-pair and five-of-a-kind), and a fixed bet that grows each betting round. The opponent will then have the choice of either folding or calling (contributing the same amount into the pot). If the bet is called, the player then has the option of challenging or accepting. A challenge puts all betting to an end and a winner is revealed based on the dice outcome. If the player accepts, the bet must be raised and the process is repeated with the other player. The game is over when either player folds or challenges. During the entire game, each player has the option of rolling one or or more dice two times.

If you have ever played skill games, that’s pretty much what Liar’s Dice is. Jadestone offers it to online betting operators via the DiceArena platform, which also includes Dice Hold’em (another poker variation with dice), Shoot the Moons and the original skill dice game, Backgammon. Jadestone’s GamArena platform offers even more, with a large selection of the next generation online skill games, including the highest quality sports, arcade and puzzle games.

Rounding out their collection of games is a new online casino platform which Jadestone has been launching in phases this year. In development for over a year, the instant play online casino platform has over forty games available in practice or real money mode, and consists of Mini Games (designed specifically for the small screen and to be played in conjunction with other games), Slot Machines (over thirty lined up) and multi-player casino games. The casino server is licensed from Swedish developer, Play ‘n Go, while the slot machines are licensed through Paf.

In other words, all of you European online casino gamblers out there should be seeing more of Jadestone in the near future. As an established skill gaming provider, Jadestone is poised to tap the casino gaming sector with the best in next generation entertainment software platforms. As their company tagline says, Jadeston is “Always in Play”.

The GamArena platform includes everything from the server back-end to the actual site, complete with a rich selection of games. Jadestone also offers all services required for day-to-day operation: customer support, payment processing, marketing support, etc. GamArena is currently available in English and more than 20 other European languages.

WinADay Online Casino Launches Three Tier VIP Program for Loyal Players

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The London-based WinADayCasino.com has just announced via a Lyceum Media press release that a VIP Program has been put into effect. And not that WinADay wasn’t rewarding it’s most loyal players before, let’s just say there wasn’t an “official” VIP Program on the books.

In addition to their regular ongoing promotions, which number quite a few (more on those later), WinADay is now dishing out a horde of bonuses based on the VIP level of all players. After being a member for at least 60 days and generating $5,000 in deposits, a player will be given Bronze Status, which entitles the player to a Free $50 no deposit bonus, a 100% Match bonus on the first deposit (after becoming a VIP), doubled bonus amounts on “games of the month”,  $55 Free for every $500 in deposits ($5 more than the standard $50 Free bonus), 12% extra bonus all day long on Monday Madness Promo’s, 16% on the first six deposits of the monthly “Sweet 16″ Promo, a VIP newsletter, and best of all (if you ask me) – Priority Customer Support.

There are two more VIP levels in addition to Bronze – Silver and Gold – both of which offer even more on top of the aforementioned bonuses. The doubled bonus on the “Game of the Month” is the same for all VIP levels, however the Gold level offers an additional 50% bonus up to $250 Free on the second deposit after becoming a VIP member, as well as an extra withdrawal day to get funds transferred that much faster and 16% bonuses all day long for the “Sweet 16″ promo.

As for the regular, ongoing promotions alluded to earlier, these include a welcome bonus worth 100% on the first deposit and 25% on the next four deposits thereafter (worth a total of up to $500 Free), the aforementioned “$50 Free for every $500 in deposits”, a “Winner Every Day” draw in which active players can randomly win up to $100, up to 15% bonus on every Monday of the week (5% more than the standard bonus), and the aforementioned “Sweet 16″ promo, which offers 16% bonuses on the first six deposits made on the 16th of every month.

Being a product of Slotland Entertainment, whose Slotland Online Casino has been doing good business on the internet for over ten years, WinADay Casino has a good reputation backing it up. And while neither online casino is listed here at OCS – mainly due to an unfamiliarity with the Anjouan government (where both casino’s are licensed), we can say that WinADay is a busy place where players get paid out. All proprietary online casino games are available on a no-download Flash platform, with an emphasis on slots and video poker.

Vampire Bets Getting Free Poker Lessons From Doyle Brunson?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Look out Hendon Mob. Doyle Brunson has a Killer Team in the making.

Look out Hendon Mob. Doyle Brunson has a Killer Team in the making.

I just read an article about poker legend, Doyle Brunson, who has apparently divulged that a colony of Vampire bats are living it up on the property of his Montana summer home. I know, I know, big deal, right?

However, it doesn’t end here. In addition to knocking off some six thousand insects every night, the colony of blood thirsty birds are taking poker lessons from the Texas Dolly himself, and apparently know how to play a mean hand of Texas Hold’em. Okay, maybe not all of them – just the one’s who know their blind(s)….C’mon, admit it – for a bad joke, that was pretty funny.

According to Brunson, they are pretty good at bluffing too. Every so often when taking his early evening walk, a few bats will make a diving swoop right at his head! Brunson – in fear of his life – has no choice but to fold on those hands. I don’t know about you, but I’d do the same if someone…err, a bat…was trying to drink my blood at the poker table.

I know what you’re thinking  – what is this April Fool’s Day? Well, if we’re talking about my life, many a day is April Fool’s Day. But the truth of the matter is that I’m always looking for any good reason to talk about Doyle Brunson, and consequently, his highly rated online casino, Doyle’s Casino. Read the OCS Doyle’s Casino Review if you want to find out more.

In the meantime, I’ll be studying up on the bluffing techniques of Vampire bats at the poker table. Then, just maybe, I too will have a good shot at making the Brunson 10. Now that is even harder to believe than poker playing Vampire bats, my friends!

Million Dollar Scratch Card Won Online at Neo Games’ Hopa.com

Monday, September 6th, 2010

hopa-1millionwinnerAnother day, another millionaire online. Okay, maybe it doesn’t happen every day. But in the vast world of online gambling, becoming a millionaire is not as rare as you might think. Granted, the odds that you and I personally will become a millionaire are very slim. Yet, isn’t it that way for everybody else? For those of us who are playing the right games at the right online betting destinations – which, these days, includes more than just online casinos – the odds get that much better.

Case in point is the recent millionaire to come out of Neo Game’s online scratch card site, Hopa.com. You heard right. Online scratch cards are a budding form of internet betting that has become very popular the world over, especially in Europe. This is precisely the area of the world in which Hopa caters to, and probably the region in which the lucky player, Lydie A., to bag the 1 million Euro jackpot calls home. Due to understandable privacy reasons, the location of winning players at Hopa is not divulged.

If you ask me, that’s just another reason to give Hopa a try. Privacy should be a major concern for online bettors, and Hopa (under the directorship of Neo Games) honors that better than most online casinos out there requiring big winners to pose for photographs and the like.

The only other thing we know about Lydie A. is that she has a touch of good luck. Not only is the 1 million win an impressive feat by itself, Lydie A. scored a 100,000 win almost one year ago playing the Super Slot 7 at Hopa – And that was only just months after Hopa was launched by Neo Games. Looks like loyalty pays off in more ways than just rewards points, does it not?

Describing the win to a Hopa representative, which was published in a press release this morning, Lydie A. stated,

hopawinner2When I was playing… and when I saw the amount that appeared on my screen as a win of 25 + 4 zeros, I became stuck to my chair and could not believe what was happening to me. I looked at it, and then looked again at the 250,000 Euros appearing in my cashier! Then, a member of the HOPA team contacted me to congratulate me on my 1,000,000Euros win! I could not believe it because only 250,000Euros were in the cashier but the winning card, itself was showing 1,000,000Euros.

I guess the software platform wasn’t used to dishing out 1 million wins, although the game itself does indeed say the opportunity exists! In fact, this was actually the first 1 million winner at Hopa, and will very likely not be the last. Furthermore, when all is said and done, Hopa has given away several million Euros in just under two years. Last month alone, Hopa gave away over 85 Million to lucky winners! And Multi-thousand Euro winners happen here every day – Check out the “Recent Winners” live feed on the Hopa homepage to see for yourself.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering about the game in which Lydie A. won the 1 million jackpot, it was the multi-scratch card game, Super 3 WOW. Want to find out more? Give Hopa.com a visit.

888’s Second Quarter Earnings Report: Online Casino and Bingo up; Poker Down

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Man Alive! What’s to be done about the online poker slump? You mean you didn’t hear? Okay, well maybe the players aren’t in a slump, per say. However, the leading U.S. facing online poker rooms (at least the one’s who used to do business in the States) are beginning to see just how bad the online poker industry depends on Uncle Sam.

Granted, I’m not referring to the poker rooms still doing business with American citizens. For them, it’s business as usual. In other words, lots of money to be had. Poker Stars and Doyle’s Room, for instance, are experiencing gains in poker activity, while rooms like 888 Pokrt are being hit with all-time record losses.

Just how bad is the damage? Well, according to 888’s Chief Executive, Gigi Levy (don’t you love that name?), who announced company earnings last month, pre-tax profit is down 43%, which equates to a difference of $6.3 million from last year’s profit of $14.9 million. Let me put it another way – 888 earned more revenue from online bingo than poker.

Uh ya, so apparently 888 is going to be undertaking some cost cutting programs in order to prevent further losses ($6 million overhead reduction), although Levy didn’t say exactly how that will be obtained. Granted, much of 888’s loss in online poker revenue can be attributed to a slumping global economy and the World Cup, which is what William Hill’s CEO blamed for his company’s losses as well! 888 has been closed to the U.S. for some time now, which goes to show that market shifts do indeed take place as a result of factors other than government infringement.

However, one can only surmise just how much this loss would have been offset if 888 was still tapping into the lucrative U.S. online poker industry. Just how lucrative you ask? Well, let’s save that for another blog post. The latest issue of iGaming Bussiness magazine has some very interesting things to say about online poker in the State of California alone – and I definitely have some things I want to share regarding this in another post. In other words, stay tuned.

As far as talks about 888 going into a merger this year, Levy reiterated his earlier comments in the year that consolidation looked “highly likely”, and after being pressed for hints, did not rule out the option of merging with Ladbrokes. Following the merger between giant’s, Bwin and Party Gaming, 888 certainly needs to do something in order to stay in the games. Thus far, things are looking better – online poker revenue for August jumped 15%, in line with normal levels. As for online casino revenue, it was up for the second quarter.
