| "Casino
Gambling Secrets" by Marten Jensen |
At over 500 pages long, Jensen's "Casino Gambling
Secrets" is a great resource for general playing advice
and learning the rules of all the major casino games.
Jensen also lays out game-specific fundamental strategy
(when relevant). The text font is oversized (which may
explain why there are so many pages), and there are some
great payout tables for several different video poker
games. This is another beginner's book, so don't think
there are actually any "secrets".
Jensen does a great job introducing each game
(eighteen in total), covering the rules, and exploring
both long and short strategies. He doesn't just tell you
what to do either. Jensen backs up each strategy with
odds, stats and the reasons for making each strategic
move.
All of the casino games covered in "Casino Gambling
Secrets" are Baccarat, Big Six Wheel, Blackjack,
Caribbean Stud Poker, Casino War, Craps, Deuces Wild
Hold'Em Fold'Em Poker, Keno, Let It Ride, Pai Gow Poker,
Red Dog, Roulette, Sic-Bo, Slots, Spanish 21, Super Fun
21, Three Card Poker and Video Poker.
Jensen also covers the essentials of money management
and understanding the odds. And while Jensen is a
supporter of systems (used specifically for playing
roulette) he contends that betting systems have their
pitfalls. It only takes up a small portion of the book,
so you can take it or leave it. Strategies for other
games are succinctly presented in short and more
advanced forms. Depending on how complex the strategy,
Jensen gives it to you in doses. For example, instead of
hitting you with the entire basic blackjack strategy
(which really isn't that basic), he teaches the simple
strategy first and backs it up with practice tips.
The accompanying charts and drawings are very helpful
as well, especially for the visual learner. Excellent
strategy charts and an in-depth glossary help to make
this an excellent gambling resource you'll turn to time
and again.
