of the Month:
A Perspective on US Online Gambling Deposits
Okay, so you might have heard
already that the relatively young Rome Casino (powered
by the relatively young Top Game software), was
broadcasting that they were accepting online gambling
deposits from U.S. players with American Express credit
cards. It was basically all over the news. So much so,
in fact, that it got back to American Express. This is
where things get interesting. According to American
Express, they have never, nor will never permit card
holders to make gambling transactions, whether offline
or online, using an American Express credit card. Now,
whether or not they can prevent gambling businesses from
doing so is another matter. What I want to say is
exactly what was posed in a recent news article here at
OCS. As an online casino operator, even if you know that
you can process deposits for U.S. players, albeit a
loophole or exploitation of the banking system, why
would you broadcast this on the internet? One, it is
going to spark interest from competitors who otherwise
have no choice but to close their doors to U.S. players
because of a lack of payment options, and two, it's
going to draw attention from authorities. Don't get me
wrong. I am definitely not promoting illegal activities.
But you have to look at the larger picture. Take the
UIGEA, for instance. It is clearly a mess of bigoted and
ineffective legislature designed to protect land-based
gambling interests and secure Congress seats that have
been heavily paid off with lobbying funds. Finding a way
to give U.S. players a way to fight back and secure
their own rightful seat is something to be commended. Is
it wise to broadcast this to the general public. Maybe
not. In other words, if you're a U.S. player looking to
gamble online, do your research. There are ways. Now,
before I get myself into any more trouble (I'm writing
this from a Guantanamo jail cell), let it be known that
my views are not necessarily those of Online Casino
Suite. There. |
