- All you poker playing
filmmakers out there listen up! There's a chance to win
$10,000 and get some credit for your filmmaking skills in a
contest at the popular online poker room, PlayersOnly.com.
Launched on You Tube, the promotion is called "PlayersOnly
Unleash the Player In You Video Contest", and is open to
anyone over the age of eighteen.
The way it works is
that poker players are encouraged to make a video that
specifically shows what it takes to be a "player". Using
oneself and a group of friends, the videos should
demonstrate the far reaching capacity of a true player.
Before I go further, first let me warn anybody who is not a
twenty-something guy who only has money, booze and sex on
his mind.
The thing about
PlayersOnly is that that's the crowd they go after. Their
philosophy is that poker is like life. And their philosophy
of life is that it's about success, money, "being in the
game", and looking good. Furthermore, their definition of a
"player" is not just a poker player per say, but is more
like a James Bond character who wins all the ladies and
makes all the guys jealous. I know it sounds pretty
superficial. And that's because it is.
I've got nothing
against PlayersOnly. I think their betting services are good
(horse, poker, casino and sports) and the graphics on their
site are exceptional, however, I have to say that making the
poker lifestyle into one that condones smoking cigars,
drinking liquor, wearing fine suits and having an air of
superiority over women is rather unfortunate.
That being said, the
video contest is catering to this type of lifestyle. Be
creative guys (and gals), and submit your videos through
YouTube. The general public will be able to comment on
submitted entries, so it should be a pretty interesting
experience I must say. I'm not sure about the deadline for
entries, but I do know the $10,000 contest winner will be
announced on February 15th. Oh, and one more thing. When I
say $10K, I mean $10K that is deposited into your
PlayersOnly account. It's not just walk-away money. Read the
terms and conditions first.
