January 23, 2009 - One of the best ways to differentiate online casinos - at
least from a technological perspective - is to classify them
according to their software platform. (Jeez, since when did
I start talking like a smart person? Ouch that hurt my
brain). Anyways, it's all in the software. The look and feel
of the games, casino lobby and cashier, the betting
interface and navigational controls, and the graphics of the
games themselves is a direct reflection of the software.
This is rocket science folks!
Think of it this way - the software is like a virtual
counterpart of a real brick 'n mortar casino
(Wow, my brain is really hurting now!). But seriously ya'll,
it's important that the casino(s) which you call home are
powered by a reputable software platform. Now, whether the
software developer is entirely independent of its licensees
- such as the case is with Microgaming and Real Time Gaming
- or, the software developer owns and manages the casinos
branding its games - such as the case with Vegas Technology
- doesn't really matter. What really matters is that the
software itself has been tested to offer inherent fairness.
From there on out, it comes down to graphics,
navigational controls and the portfolio of casino games
available. If you've read the Software page here at OCS, you
will know who these software providers are. In business
since 1999, Playtech is one of the oldest and largest
software developers in business today. Now with nearly 200
active online casino licensees, you could definitely say
that Playtech has brought in its fair share of players and
dished out a generous sum of money over the years.
I remember during the early days of online gambling, when
all I was doing was reviewing Playtech casinos - even more
so than Microgaming. Of course, all that's changed since the
