of the Month:
With the
inauguration of President Elect Obama nearing fast, it might
serve us well to take another look at the online gambling
situation in the U.S., and whether or not the incoming
administration is going to make some changes in this regard. I,
for one, am very confident that Obama's administration will be
smart about the whole thing. The best case scenario, of course,
would be that the federal government will legalize online
gambling. This would probably amount to giving individual
State's the right to choose to regulate or not. But here's the
kicker - While Obama himself may like to get his online poker
game one, it's going to be up to other powerful individuals in
his cabinet, whom he has appointed. Obviously, the most
impactful will be his Attorney General. Seeing that this
appointment has already been made (former Deputy Attorney
General, Eric Holder), some pro-online gamblers out there are a
little bit concerned. Holder's record shows some associations
with certain lobbying associations - one being the very
anti-online gambling National Football League. Although this is
an indirect association, time will tell just how many degrees of
separation there will be. And hey, if Holder turns out to be an
uptight prick, all Obama has to do is be like Alabama Governor,
Boby Riley, who going against his own Attorney General, Troy
King, is heading up his own "vigilante" gambling task force.
We'll just hope Obama's campaign is the other way around.
