Craps

Craps is one of the most social and engaging games in the casino. And while it can seem confusing at first glance, the reality is that craps delivers a relatively low House Edge with just a single bet. More on that later, but first let's go over the structure of craps and the betting rounds.

At the craps table you are essentially betting in favor of the shooter (the person rolling the dice) or against them. Each betting round starts off with what is called the come out roll. If the come out roll is a 2,3,7,11 or 12, the round ends and bets are paid accordingly. If any other number is rolled, a "point number" is established.

At any point during this process, many different bets can be made on the table, which is why things can get confusing. There are simply lots of bets to be made. However, that one bet that delivers little over a 1.4% House Edge can only be made at the beginning of a new round. It's called the Pass bet, and will win on the come out roll if a 7 or 11 is rolled and will lose if a 2,3 or 12 is rolled. If the point number is established, the pass bet will win if the point number is rolled a second time before a 7 or 11 is rolled. If the 7 or 11 is rolled first, the pass bet loses.

Additionally, the pass bet allows players to make double odds bets with no House Edge if the come out roll becomes a point number. This brings the House Edge down even lower and is one of the best bets in the casino.

As you familiarize yourself with the layout of the craps table, you will see an area marked "Pass Line". It runs the outside of the layout and is hard to miss. This is the bet the majority of craps players make. This is the bet you should make most of the time. Get used to making it before you consider making any of the other bets on the craps, some of which you should not make at all.

When playing craps in the online casino, you will find it much more conducive to implementing strategy (at least in the beginning). In fact, online casinos are a great place to learn craps before giving it a go in a land-based casino.
